31/08/2017 Losar –
Chandra Tal Lake
Garmin Connect
Today’s mission was
to climb up to the Kumzam La pass at 4590 according to the sign. This was our first proper pass. Nako didn't really count at 3800.
It was a beautiful
ride and the going wasn't too bad at all. The sun was out and the views
stunning. I'm running out of adjectives when it comes to describing the views.

At the top we met with a group of friendly Norwegian motor cyclists and their
support staff and vehicle. They were also on their way to the Lake and they
kindly offered us lunch on the way down. We weren't that much slower on the
down hill then the motor bikers because the road surface was pretty bad again.
Chandra Tal is now a big tourist attraction and there were big tent camps set
up at a considerable distance away from the lake. There were hundreds of
campers in all. With long drop toilets with a proper toilet perched on the top
and cook tents and dining tents etc. The Norwegian folk offered us a lift up to
the lake on the back of their motor bikes and we very gratefully accepted. It
was a long steep slog up to the lake and instead we had a very exhilarating
ride. I have to admit that I was a bit scared and I clung on to the rider for
dear life. We pitched our own tent and although it rained relentlessly throughout the night we stayed dry and cosy.
Temperatures do drop considerably so we wear most of our clothing overnight.

Hope my bike enjoyed the view

You can never have too many prayer flags

Kind Norwegian motor bikers gave us a ride to the Lake.

It was pretty scary and I didn't hesitate to cling on
|
I don't think we saw the Moon Lake at it's best.
