| Another plate of chow mein always went down well. Breakfast lunch and dinner sometimes |
After yesterdays heat we decided to leave early and
began the slow ascent to Kaza.
After 20 kms we stopped at Shichling for breakfast of Chow Mein
and shortly afterwards met the American pair we had met a couple of times
before. They were taking the side road up to Dankhar to visit a beautiful
monastery where we subsequently realised you can stay overnight. In retrospect
as we were a day or two ahead of schedule we should perhaps have taken this option
instead but as usual there's sometimes a compulsion not to lose time and just
move on and additionally, a definite reluctance to make a 250 m climb knowing
you only have to retrace your steps again.
Following the river gently upstream we soon arrived in Kaza for
a relatively early end to the cycling for the day.
Kaza used to be the capital for the Spiti region and is still a
busy place with some tourists. There was a good choice of places to stay with
most of them offering Wifi but as usual it was pretty poor. There was a varied
choice of food for the first time in a while and we gorged on chips, pizza and
beer.
