Losar
Filling up with petrol for the stove
Following Aidens
advise we climbed the 500 meters up to Kibber village again and enjoyed the
usual omelette and parantha breakfast with a cup of sweet coffee. We thought
that that was most of the climbing done for today. How we were mistaken. After
Kibber there followed another 11 km of undulating road road. Very disappointing
when you are expecting to go downhill! When the downhill finally came it was
truly spectacular. Some amazing Hoodoos (carved out rock formations)could be
spotted everywhere. Once we hit the main road at Kiato we slowed down
drastically because the road surface was shocking and we met with a strong
headwind. The sky was low and as Laura Stone describes it the whole place has
quite a desolate feel about it.
New bridge and road after Kibber village. We hardly met any one and wonder why they build this new road when existing roads are in such an appalling state
The last 10 km or
so seemed to take forever. Climbing and descending endlessly. Quite character
building! All was well when we eventually found a nice room with spectacular
views in Losar and a good meal and a very friendly lady in the local dabah.. She
spoke very good English and explained that apart from potatoes and barley all
other foodstuff gets brought in from Manali.
It was incredibly beautiful though
